Sunday 6 March 2011

Well the Day arrived.....

and after months of planning the day passed very quickly - but wow what a wonderful day it was.
Full of fun and laughter and glorious crafty chatter.
Yesterday was 'HugBinders Day' - who would have thought back in October when Lynn and I had a germ of an idea, it would snowball so quickly and so wonderfully and become the success it has turned to be.
How we can ever begin to thank everybody who contributed in so many different ways and so many different levels I don't know - but yesterday was proof that we can all make a difference.

We cant announce yet quite how much money we have raised - there is a little more to come in and a few expenses to take out - as soon as we know we will announce it - what we can promise you though is that you wont be disappointed - neither will Macmillan!

What is maybe even more important is the love and friendship that made this event possible -
after all - is there greater friendship than Nicks, Lynn and Debs still loving Bev even though she won Fuchsias much coveted mirror!

a selection of completed books

dont they look fab !!

and what is better than sharing a Fish and Chip Supper and a Glass of wine with friends after a busy day?

and finally.......

The Books and Raffle Prizes ready packaged and addressed ready to be posted out tomorrow!!

Capturing moments

What a fabulous day!

Thanks gents for looking after the ladies so well.

A picture paints a thousand words and here are a few moments captured on the day.
There were lots of camera's and official photographers there, I was trying to get pictures of the men in action but a lot of them didn't turn out - photography is a true talent and skill, I am just a snapshotter!

Luncheon is served!

Hot Off The Press...

Katherine T, Sparkles and little ol' me have spent the day collating all the pages ready for the BIG day.. which is now only 4 sleeps away!!

We have made up the first book - here it is - hot off the press!

the pages ready to be sorted...............

Sunday 27 February 2011

Embargoed!

Wow only six sleeps! How exciting!
I have been making some samplers of covers with a few techniques and destruction sheets - but I cannnot show you as they are for the day and I don't want to spoil it for the Hugbinders in attendance.  I have done 7 sample covers - I was aiming for 10 but 2 ended up as bin fodder and one just didn't get made, it ran away in the night! lol

Hugbinders - don't forget if you have any particular stamps you want to use to bring them with you, if you are as forgetful as I am then I why am I reminding you?!  I believe that Angel policy is not applicable here as you are using them in unique works and not mass production copying.

Can't wait for Hugbinders day and to see the book covers that the Hugbinders make, six sleeps... if I can sleep for excitement!

23 days to go and Prepping

Time is flying past, I cant believe its only 23 days to go... well actually in 23 days we will now be finishing up and  washing our hands in readiness for our well deserved glass of wine and plate of fish and chips, so really its only 22 days to go!

Today has been spent with Katherine and Beryl prepping some stuff for the big day... we had alot of fun today with just the three of us, so that fun has got to be multiplied several times over when the whole workshop are together!

You can tell from the photos that we had alot of inky fun trying out a few techniques  .... this was after the main job of cutting, punching and rounding 100 covers

Beryl's space after an hour

But she has messy hands!!

Katherine's space after 10 mins

But she has clean hands

and err..... Nicks space....

Her husband kindly drove her across town to drop it off today - a big lovely box full of lovely stash - Thank you Carol!

and then, off I go to pick DS up from school and another friend Mags -who has helped us in so many ways already_ gave me a HUGE box full of stuff, some of which we will be putting on Ebay and selling in aid of Macmillan, so you can all have a fair crack of the whip!

WOW!!!

Another WONDERFUL donation from a member of the Docrafts Forum - what a gorgeous load of stash THANK YOU Bluespero/Laura

Laura has said we can use it as we wish, most of it will be split up and used as raffle prizes, so get your tickets now! We have so many gorgeous prizes you have a big chance of winning!

One or two of the items will be used to make the Book covers on the day - this has the double advantage of saving us some expenses on products, plus the used items will be sold afterwards and all profits will go to add extra to the HugBinders final total.

Thanks again to Laura and thank you to everyone who has donated things and money to this worthwhile cause - however big or small your donation it is truly appreciated

ALTERED ART AND A LOAD OF TAT: Time is Marching On!

Friday 7 January 2011

Roll Call...

Time is galloping on and I have had a few emails from people asking

a) how much is P&P going to be

b) how many copies of their page should they do

c) if you intend to attend the workshop (you will get a book included in the price)

For us to be able to gauge the answers to these questions can you please leave your name in the comment box stating

a) if you intend to do a page  - when we know an approx number of pages, i can then make a mock up book and take it to the PO to be weighed

b) If you intend to buy a copy/copies of the finished book (you don't need to have made a page to buy a book!)

 Thank you!!

I am keeping the list updated, of companies who are and who are not giving us permission  to use their stamps and then copy  the pages, please check this and if there is a company that isn't mentioned, please contact them yourself.

N.B Remember that you do have the option (as BIC is doing)  of hand stamping each copy with a stamp if needed. Its not as arduous as it sounds, as an example, BIC is completing her page with the stamps she is allowed to copy - copying this however many times and then finishing the page off by hand-stamping the image from Stampin' up (who have not given us permission) - Thanks for that BIC

Happy New Year!

The Countdown has begun! Its only 2 months and 1 day to HugBinders - although the Ticker doesn't allow for the fact that February is a short month, so its actually 64 days or 1536 hours or 92160 minutes or 5529600 seconds - but unless you are reading this as the clocks chime on New Years Day then these calculations are now wrong..... but what is happening is time is slipping away, so start thinking about and starting your page, buying your raffle tickets and for those of you who are coming to the actual day, start packing your case!!

HugBinders is a'comin' !

2010 was obviously a very sad year for those of us who knew and loved John - but I know John would not want us to be sad (mmmm easier said than done, but he always enjoyed setting me a difficult task!) and he would be so very chuffed that something positive was happening in his memory - so come on guys and gals, lets do him proud!

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness but of power.
They are messengers of overwhelming grief and of unspeakable love."
Washington Irving

Wishing you all a Very Happy and Creative New Year
Love from Nicks, Lynn, Bev and Debs (oh and the Old Dear Sparkles) xxx

PS.... No resting on your laurels - cos we need the pages by the 10th of Feb, which is only 41 days LOL!!

LOL UPDATE!! Ticker seems to have corrected itself! yesterday it said 2 months 2 days, today it says 2 months 4 days - which is more like it
